"Remote & field " construction tool. DX.D / UX

Performing  extensive field activities in remote working conditions can be exhausting, just as the long title of this project may suggest.  Davina & I were approached by Aurigo, Masterworks from Bangalore to create a tool that could  bridge the gap between companies to make communication effortless between the field and office management such that it could eliminate waste in everyday field activities.

The problem. On further investigation of the brief and some engaging user insights, we realised there was a need to create a " remote and field construction  clipboard " that would  help improve the performance of their project without asking them to change the way they work as most construction site visits require the same core information.

"Paper rules",  as we gathered from the site managers preferred  putting things down on paper . Note taking was simpler and allowed them to be quick about their work, this allowed us to get deeper into the research and ask some more questions.

These insights  allowed us to simply building an interactive and a multi-featured form that could allow site managers to significantly reduce their reliance on paper, to give the user a convenience of his or her work sheet with easy access. Which gave us our question to design.

" How might we design an on - site tool that allowed managers to significantly decrease their reliance on paper which allowed managers to document issues on the fly and  complete walkthrough's " .

And our answer was  simple - an " Interactive Note pad ".

We realised that creating management system won't work, what they needed was a solution which effectively combines a " Cognitive Biasis " ( Decision-making, belief, and behavioural biases )  with a structured palette base which helps them to solve the query in an effective manner along with a better management module for the admins to monitor the overall efficiency

Embrace simplicity :  Find a single element that captures the essence of your tool and express that element in a simple, unique shape. Add details cautiously. If an icon’s content or shape is overly complex, the details can be hard to discern, especially at smaller sizes.

Provide a single focus point. Design with a single, centred point that immediately captures attention and clearly identifies your app while making sure Text, Icon and other elements are opaque, and don’t clutter the background. Give it a simple background so it doesn’t overpower other app icons and text which are the essence of the work on an already cluttered field.

Science behind the purple hue!

Almost all colours are in fact just as real as any other colour, with the exception of purple. Purple is mostly an artefact of the way our eyes and brains perceive colours and try to make sense out of a world which doesn't always make sense. Purple is not a single pure frequency of light as it does not appear in the visible spectrum which makes it a perfect colour as a background colour that makes the black text readable even in the sunlight.

Consistent

Colour should be applied throughout a UI consistently and be compatible with the brand it represents.

Distinct

Colour should create distinction between elements, with sufficient contrast between them, such as colour conveys  relationships between elements and degrees of hierarchy.
